“Wasted Food Stops with Us” Week

April is Earth Month and Hamilton County R3Source is presenting its second annual “Wasted Food Stops with Us” Week, a series of events to celebrates food as a resource to be enjoyed, shared, and donated.  

Monday, April 10: 1 p.m.: Virtual Panel Discussion
Join a NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) virtual panel featuring Mary Knight, director of Food for the Soul in Glendale. Participants will learn how the Food for the Soul team transforms donated food from grocery stores and restaurants into healthy meals for hungry Hamilton County residents. Join via Zoom (link).  

Tuesday, April 11: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.: WeThrive! Miami Township Food Distribution Event
Hamilton County residents may receive complimentary healthy food and personal care items for their families. They will also learn how to store their food so that it lasts longer while maximizing its freshness and flavor with a take home Food Storage Guide. This event at Three Rivers Schools (56 Cooper Avenue in Cleves) is presented by WeThrive! in partnership with Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library and Food for the Soul. 

Wednesday, April 12: 12 p.m.: Food Upcycling with CPS Students 
Food Waste Diversion Coordinator, Tony Staubach and Cincinnati Public School culinary arts students will demonstrate how to upcycle food to create delicious and nutritious dishes at Findlay Market. The demos will take place at Elaine’s Kitchen (1801 Race St, Cincinnati, OH 45202) and feature recipes from Chef Garland Butts of Our Daily Bread and Chef Anthony Jordan of Invito Personal Chef

Thursday, April 13: 6:30 p.m.: Compost Seminar at Civic Garden Center
Hamilton County R3Source’s Elise Roalef teaches participants how to start their own backyard composting with kitchen food scraps and yard trimmings such as leaves and grass. This is the first of eight free seminars throughout April and May; advance registration is required.

 

Friday, April 14: 4:30 p.m.: Virtual Cooking with Tony
Food Waste Coordinator Tony will whip up easy and tasty recipes including radish green pesto, pasta, and a surprise dessert from upcycled food. For a sneak peak, watch any of Tony’s short recipe videos at WastedFoodStopsWithUs.org.
