School waste audits can be a hands-on, cooperative, and fun (yes, fun!) learning experience for students:
• Math teachers can use waste audit data to create graphs and charts.
• Recycling coordinators can reinforce what is and is not recyclable; evaluate where improvements can be implemented; and determine next steps to reduce waste with information obtained from a waste audit.
• Food service professionals can learn what students are and are not eating and why from a food waste audit.
Hamilton County R3Source has the buckets, scales, clipboards, and gloves available to loan to any school in Hamilton County that wants to conduct a waste audit. For more information or assistance, email Cher Mohring or call 513-946-7737.
