[ARCHIVED] Learn Before You Burn

AQ_openburn

There’s nothing like a warm fire pit on a crisp, fall evening. Many people enjoy having a driveway fire pit on Halloween for trick or treaters. It’s really important for both air quality and fire safety to burn properly. Here are some basic tips:

  • Keep the fire smaller than 3 feet by 2 feet.
  • Always use clean, dry, seasoned firewood. This minimizes smoke.
  • Do not leave the fire unattended.
  • Be sure to completely eliminate the flames before turning in. Do not allow fire to smolder overnight.

Open burning for the purposes of agricultural or land clearing requires a permit. Learn before you burn.
